Welcome 4 The Future Ltd Games Poems & Stuff Links Back to Home

4 The Future Limited is my own company through which I act as an IT consultant (specializing in ORACLE design, implementation, and DBA work, Solaris admin., system testing, user guides and delivery of training).

The company was established in July, 1998 just before I resigned from my permanent job with the Civil Service in Cheltenham, Glos. In reverse chronological order, these are the jobs I have done so far...

January, 1999 -> (January, 2000) CURRENT CONTRACT
IT support rep on-site at a BT project helpdesk in Reading. Primary role is supporting front-end MCSS and CLARIFY user interfaces and their back-end Oracle databases. Staying in Reading during the week. Agency responsible for getting me the job was QA Myriad.

October, 1998 -> December, 1998
Development system Oracle DBA for Cambridge Technology Partners on an upgrade project for Swiss telecom company SUNRISE AG (based in Zurich). This meant being away from the family in a foreign country, but it was quite an experience - good fun and a very satisfying job. Agency responsible for getting me the job was Spring IT.

Cambridge Team photos here and here. From left to right...
Back Row:     Tillman Blaus (Proj Mgr), Richard Wood (Sci-Fi book lover), Pascal Bertschy (Frenchman),
                      and Paolo Senore (bloody nice bloke)
Middle Row:  Mitch Morando (shortarse Yank), myself (expletives deleted), Jonas Oreland (Jone the Bone),
                      and Ulrich Romahn (Proj Mgr)
Front Row:     Rodolfo Milos (buggered off to Brazil), and Mohammed (my replacement for Xmas period)

Also went snow boarding (for the first time ever) with a bunch of other Spring contractors, so we became known as the Spring boarders (I did a cartoon and we had tee-shirts made up, view the cartoon here).

September, 1998 -> October, 1998
Design address database for the Hong Kong Post Office for the Royal Mail in Swindon. Short first contract, but lots done in the time and very interesting (sadly no free trips to Hong Kong were forthcoming). Agency responsible for getting me the job was Computer Futures.
